Butterfly species recorded at Rough Bank

This page lists the butterfly species recorded at Butterfly Conservation's Rough Bank reserve since 2012, the year when BC purchased the reserve. Older records from the site of a few other species are not listed. Grassland management is aimed at providing varied habitat to cater for those species requiring short turf and also those needing much longer turf. We hope that in future the site will support Large Blue Phengaris arion.

Not all of the UK resident species recorded have colonies on the reserve or very close to it. Some species have been seen as individual specimens on at most a few occasions, so these were probably 'wanderers' from colonies elsewhere in the central Cotswolds. This applies to Grizzled Skipper, Pearl-bordered Fritillary and Marsh Fritillary, and perhaps Duke of Burgundy (seen in 2018 on two dates and once in 2019).
